Sketch the curve y=(x-1)(x+1)(x-3) and shade the region enclosed by the curve, the x-axis and the ordinates x=0 and x=2. Find the total area of the region

ANS: 7/2 units ^2

i keep getting a negative value for the postive area of the curve

You will need to split the interval up to get the area. The answer will be given by

, where f(x) is the given polynomial (put a negative sign in the integrand to get a positive area for the second integral because the curve is below the x-axis for the interval 1 < x < 2).
