Hi
I know most of you here are aiming for top tier jobs, but I have come to the gradual realisation that the working hours in the good firms will be impossible for me to manage.
The small bottom tier firm I currently work with have offered me an articled clerkship when I graduate in 2011. The only problem is that the wages seem very low.
It's a country firm of 5 solicitors and the working hours are strictly 9 to 5, so I understand there will be no exciting pay offer, but I am thinking they may be trying to take advantage of the fact they think I won't relocate to secure a better position - which I will.
I have secured a few top student awards, a golden key, decent grades and have legal experience. I have a good rapport with clients - some have asked for me to take over their files thinking I am qualified (which may have caused some resentment from the lawyers). Just trying to explain I'm not going bottom tier because that is all my grades will let me do. It is a lifestyle choice due to family obligations.
Does anyone know where I can get information on what a reasonable hourly rate/annual salary would be? All I can find are estimations for the mid to top tier firms and I understand that is not at all relevant due to the fact those firms expect you to sweat blood for them and I wouldn't be.
Would $40k minimum be an unreasonble expectation?
