with now less than 100 days to go, athens organisers still think they are on track to complete construction for the games..

do you think they'll make it? or are the organisers going to turn athens into the laughing stock of the developed world.

also.. thoughts on security? after yesterday's bombings in athens..

I don't think they'll make it, purely based on the fact that the sydney site was being built for YEARS beforehand, and I imagine it'll be expected to be at least as intricate

I think that Beijing will challenge Sydney's 'best games evar' tag, especially with the current situation in Athens and the manner in which Sydney beat Beijing to the 2000 slot.

Athens is pretty stuffed I think. Beijing will have it easy, they have a million people they can force to be labourers as they kick them out of their homes to build the stadium and provide housing for the athletes.
Considering China's record, especially Tianament Square, it's a wonde they recieved the Games. Still, maybe they are trying to clean up their record....

What was this rumour-type thing I heard (probably even on bos somewhere!) that Sydney was going to get a few events from Athens because things like rooves and various other places are just so far away from being finished it's just impossible?

Anyone with light on this? It sounds a bit too extreme...

It is a load of crap. Why would they send an event over to Australia when they could just host it at another European venue?

If I am not mistaken, that story was released on 1 April, too.

lol i think the whole world would be paying more attention to the administration and the venues than athletes breaking world records. i think ch 7 can get the highest raings by shoing teh behind the scenes at going to the athens olympics

there is no way they can finish all the venues in athens within a hundred days, o well i guess there may b no olympics 4 2004 or a complete disaster.
did u c the seven news reporter walking thru Athens venues where he walked around and no 1 was questioning him or n e thing, security isn't as strict and tightened.
since its in asia minor anything can happen such as the bomb, hu knows wats next

I highly doubt they finish.. prbly quite embarrassing for them!... oh well even though the sydney games were great.. this just makes sydney look even better ... with the security situation i don't think they'll have the time/resources to properly cover the event.. hopefully nothing too disastrous happens
