Hey,

I started watching the tennis this summer and really enjoying it, but don't understand the game too well..
Could someone please tell me why the men play 5 sets while the women only play 3..
Thanks :D

it only happens in grand slams, but its just that men naturally have more endurance than women

its because women only have to win 2 sets to win the match while men have to win 3, so naturally the game can only be stretched to 5 sets for men and 3 for women coz there is no tie break for the last sets of both men and women matches

but apart from grand slam

smaller tournments, men play out of three sets just like women..and depending at times, the final might be out of five

women play less tennis and earn more money at the Australian Open...it is the only grand slam that pays women more

australian open is probably the most 'even' type surface for every player..

cis its rebound ace..its not as fast as grass/hardcourt, b ut not slow either..thats why u see players like ferrero doing so well there...

yeah the clay 'specialists' do okay here. i remember moya making a final here to and other europeans doing okay in the past.

i like watching wimbledon and seeing the serve-vollyers and the french is fun too, cos we get to see all these random spaniards and whatnot who are world beaters on clay but shit on anything else.

The point about women earning more is that while the prize money may be equal between the sexes, the women only have to play to the best of three rather than the best of five. I really couldn't care, though, because one could easily argue that in many cases the women are the ones who bring in the crowds and so deserve a greater proportion of the money.
