Hi all,

i'd like to hear your oppinions on these two courses... I'm leaning towards choosing the eco/arts, majoring in political science, as i really enjoy doing economics at high school. however i dropped maths (which i got extremely bad marks in), and am worried about the compulsory course in econometrics and the 'maths side' of the degree. Would i be better off doin commerce because of this? or should i persevere with my limited mathematics adv knowledge which kind of covers calculus, and choose economics (i like the economic courses better than the commerce courses.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I was in the same boat and choose Arts/Economics - I will be transferring to Arts/Commerce.

My advice is to go with Arts/Commerce and do an economics major in commerce (I believe this way you avoid the econometrics courses, check with the faculty ['college'] though).

is that because of the level of maths involved with econometrics? i just dont want commerce to resemble business studies in high school...

Maths isnt my thing and econometrics isnt exactly easy maths, so in that way my transfer can be seen as econometrics driven.

As far as what commerce is like, I didnt do business studies si cant directly compare it but I would say that yes there will be a certain resemblence between the two. The plus is its uni so you can do what you want theres lots of majors available eg marketing, international business, human resources, e-commerce/similar, accounting, etc just off the top of my head.
