with B Eng (Combined), i only realised yesterday (well i think what i realised was right - tell me if im not) that you can choose another course or wateva with B Eng, well i duno... but the combined part - can you choose any other course on the list of courses the uni has, or is there only certain ones you can choose from? do you also need to be above the cutoff for the course you wish to do combined?
i hope someone understands my ramblings, if so please reply :)

You need to meet the cut off for the highest of the two courses.

Sometimes only specific majors can be combined with engineering, sometimes none can, other times anything goes.

Which specialistion were you looking at in engineering?

Let me guess, your other preferences are things you have absolutely no interest in, but are stereotypically 'reputable' and 'high paying' (exempli gratia: law, med, actuarial)?

But anyway, most engineering degrees allow for you to combine commerce with them or if you are medically inclined, you can combine an engineering degree with a master of biomedical engineering. I think it's even possible to do law with engineering in some cases.

If you're looking at USYD or UNSW, you can definitely combine BSc or BA with them.

ey i hav interest in actuarial its mathy! and its surely better than boring accounting!!!
(how bout ur ex-pref "photovoltaics" because its one of the highest paying eng. degrees huh?)
so u can basically do a double degree with engineering with any other degree that you get above the uai for? would you also b able to change in second yr or wateva to doing the minor part of your degree as your main, rather than engineering as main if you dont end up liking it? (if u get wat i m once again rambling about....)

Photovoltaics is an interest of mine, actually. I'd like to do research on it in some form if possible. :p

You know the drop-out rate for actuarial is like 30 to 40%? Not to mention the high-level maths which is maintained throughout the course, as well as the rigourous extra training required after the degree and the stressful job. All of which amounts to a rate of pay which is in the end comparable to engineering professions.

It's not a matter of majors and minors. Whilst I doubt your non-engineering second degree is covered in as much depth, you certainly do cover it enough to be awarded two undergraduate degrees. Note that you must take an extra year or so to complete a combined degree.

For UNSW, and presumably for other unis, engineering takes priority. At UNSW you do 3 years of your BE, then 1 year of your BA/BSC and then your final year of your BE (your thesis). This amounts to 5 years in total.
