u dont need to major in criminology to be a prosecutor
but it helps because you'll need to assess whether or not and to what extent you want to charge someone or whether letting them go, or go on bail will make a difference, impede their normal life or put other lives in danger
prosecutors are independent of govts, their work is practical but can involve a lot of research in the area. so yes its a good area to go into
basically crime can be summarised as follows:
- high incentive
- means and opportunity
- lack of law enforcement or lenient sentences
politicians often criticize one another for taking one option and then say that another option was to go
eg
petrol stealing
commerce says: pay before you take (take away the opportunity)
opposition says: get tough on crime (harsher punishments + more cops)
labor says: get the feds to lower taxes on petrol (lower incentives)
all can in theory work- which is the best one?
but this has nothing to do with prosecution- im just ranting on
forgive me
