I'm in a bit of a dilemma as to whether to pick an Arts degree or an International Studies degree. (Typical of me to be settled in a choice and then get indecisive at the last minute. Heh.) In a BA I'd be planning to do history, ancient history, government/IR and junior archaeology, in a BIntSt I'd probably end up with a double major in government/IR and history. I want to do honours and hopefully graduate law once I've finished whichever degree I go for.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the BA, majorly because it has a bit more flexibility and allows me to do most of what's in the BIntSt as well as other stuff, but my mindset could change at any moment. Can anyone give me their impressions of the degrees and of the way they're set up, or just generally give me an opinion on which one I should spring towards, considering the subjects I want to do?

(My UAI was 94.50, so I should get into both unless BIntSt goes up by about a point.)

With B.Int.Stud. you have to do a few compulsory political economy units. Including ecop1003 which is horrible. I originally wanted to do B.Int.Stud. this time last year- but I ended up settling for B.Ec. It allows me to major in Government and International Relations as well as Economics. To me the only benefit of B.Int.Stud. is the govt practicum units in third year, that are only available to international studies students. B.Int.Stud. really only provides structure to people with a general interest in 'international studies'.. but since you're already pretty sure about what you want to study, and most of it is from the Arts faculty, do B.Arts. You'll still be able to do hons major in Govt, without having to do compulsory political economy units, as well as being able to CHOOSE which govt units you want to study towards completing your major.
