This thread might belong somewhere else, but because it's a combined degree that hasn't really popped up too much in discussion (at least that's what search results suggest) I've just posted it in General.

So, does anyone here do a BA/Sc? If you do, it'd be great if you could answer a few questions (because no uni sites seem to address them directly, and I'd prefer to try here before hassling the university admin). So here it goes:

  • Is it possible to do an Honours Year in both disciplines combined, so you'd end up with a B.A (Pretentiology) (Hons)/B.S (Nerdistics) (Hons). Could this be done in the usual 'one year' as other Hons. programs, or would it need to be spaced over two years?
  • Is the BA/Sc course recognized after you leave uni? The only reputable international university I know of that offers it is Stanford, and they don't put the usual advertisment of 'this degree is internationally recognized' on the BA/Sc page.
  • Is a Bachelor of Liberal studies 'better' than a BA/Sc? Does it provide more opportunities? Or is this just assumed because it has a significantly larger UAI cut-off than a BA/Sc.
I forgot the other question, but that should be enough. I'm just trying to figure out what Uni Degrees I'd like to do so I can choose 11 Prelim subs next year (Career Advisor is a champ, and wants everyone to look at Uni Degrees early).

Thanks for your help.

All unversity degrees are internationally recognised, except for the ones on the internet which asks for your credit card details.

You can do Honours in both, I don't see why not, but I don't see why you would want to. Honours in both as long as you satisfy the requirements for hons. Doubt you would be able to do them both in one year, Hons thesis takes a lot of time on research.
Work experience would be worth far more than any honours thesis can offer.

UAI is meaningless, don't judge any course on the UAI, do what you want to do and what your true interests lie. As long as you do well, you will find opportunities to work in anywhere of your choosing and the only way to do well is by doing something which you enjoy.

A Bachelor of Liberal Studies gives an overall coverage of both Science and Languages, but doing a combined degree shows that you are qualified in both Arts AND Science.

Yes, you can do Honours in both, but see, Honours is a full on, year long thing. You can't do 2 Honours courses at once. You'd have to do 1 year of Arts Honours, and 1 year of Science honours.

I'm in my 3rd year of a BSc/BA, so if you have any more questions ask away. My majors (specialty areas) are Japanese and Microbiology.
