Does anyone have a backup regime?

I'm thinking about setting up one so I don't loose important files. any ideas?

I have all my important docs/files on D (backup/storage drive).

If anything fails, I wipe C and clean install Windows.

I regularly backup my important settings such as ICQ, mIRC and other apps which require customising (to my own personal preferences), so I don't have to do it all over again if anything crashes/blows up :p

That's my regime,

Install Windows to C:
Allocate 2-5GB to C, if you're making partitions

Have all your 'working' files on D:
Everything is stored to D:
I have weekly backups of applications which are customised, settings, etc (don't forget FlashFXP ;)) and I rar them all up, and store them on my D drive.

Works for me, no CDs, no mess, fast retrieval if anything happens, I just have to format C, install windows and restore everything (install apps, etc) and overwrite/replace existing (or default) application settings with the ones from D :)

Don't jinx me, hehehe!

Well, I haven't really thought about that, but it has been fine for quite a while, so I don't think it'll fail.

And if it fails, I won't lose much.

All my assessments = handed in, received my marks, etc.
Photos = okay, this might be important to me.

I used to ghost my drive every month, but I can't be bothered anymore... since I'm essentially backing up the 'same' files/state.

:)

is this in reference to me or Huy?

i think Huy, yeah i have Huy's setup exactly as well, but i have two 40 gig HDD's and the first one is paritioned C, and D, and D i store my docs etc.. and then Drive E i store all my stuff i want, well not to jinx myself i guess you have a lesser rate of HDD Failure if the hdd is just accessed for files instead of having it accessed rapidly by the OS, so i keep my important stuff on a seperate HDD

1x 8GB Fujitsu 7,200rpm (ghost of C, Windows)

I have a DVD+-RW drive (Pioneer DVR-106D), 4x DVD burning.
I don't think I would store any of that on HD ;)
8-9 minutes for a 4.7GB DVD-R (good for PS2 DVD-ROM games :))

However I do have divx/xvid rips/rls' on the HDs... *whistles*
... OR DO I! *shifty look*

LOL.
Warezing school/HSC notes... LOL!!!

I am getting 1 more 120GB (maybe looking at a Western Digital, or sticking to my Seagate Barra V's, but 8MB cache) to store other stuff on this new drive (need to save though... just spent my money on a 256MB MMC -MultiMedia Card for my digital camera... sold my 64MB MMC, need to get my 256MB MMC in a few days when it arrives).

LOL @ telstra bigpond cable, it sucks.
I've been on it since 1999 and the service has gone downhill.

Besides 800-900KB/s, I am unsatisfied with the download quotas.

Yeah i think this is the general pattern

Cable = Paying for speed
ADSL = Paying for limit

LOL ..... that would be #betas-xdcc :p :p
only kidding... ;)

"english notes" ... hmm, yes... that's it... :D

cable = paying for huge bandwidth, limited quota
adsl = paying for 'limited' (line limit) bandwidth, unlimited quota

strictly speaking it is not "unlimited", but you know what i mean... 10-20GB per month is more than what any cabler can dream of now.

*thinks back to the days when 100GB+ per month of data transfer was 'so much fun'* :(
