A mutation is the change in the DNA information on a chromosome. This produces new alleles of genes in species, because if the DNA is changed on a chromosome, the DNA structure changes, and hence a new allele, so creates new genetic variation. For example a single mutation in the haemoglobin molecule leads to the production of a different amino acid (valine instead of glutamic acid) and produces the genetic change.Explain how mutations in DNA can lead to the generation of new alleles? Mention an example in your response. 4 marks
