I am trying to write an essay on Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982). The problem is, I have quite a few good quotes and dialog, but i think the essay lacks mention of visual techniques. Can anyone suggest any interesting/effective "visual" techniques in the film?

Thanks in advanced.

Just randomly: You can talk about the panoramic camera shots of L.A. 2019 and how they highlight the environmental degradation. And also the motif of the eye at the start where you can see reflections of the destruction thats happening, emphasises that the triumph of science and technology has commoditised individual freedom and happiness prohibiting a relationship with the natural world...

things u might consider:

-high angle shots
-the monolithic Tyrell Corporation dominating the whole scene
-the general 'darkness' of the movie - very Film Noir. bleak, dim, dark...speaks volumes
-the pollution, the acid rain, the fire flumes - its Hell!
-consider the movement and appearance of the On World inhabitants. deranged, disabled, almost robotic-like.

there are more, but you as the student has to find them yourself as well ;) good luck!
