Hey guys, i signed up to use Windows Live E-mail, and its pretty gud except for the massive add at the top of the frame. I was wondering if there was a way to block adds in IE like there is in Firefox?

It requires editing the host. Not worth the effort
Heh, it's a pity IE is so uncustomisable. Could you please give a quick rundown of how to do this? (by quick I mean I don't need too verbose instructions)

run C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\HOSTS
and redirect any website you want to 127.0.0.1 . Place advertising domain names without any extra stuff after the .com/net/org/whatever.
Thanks

You can also replace your hosts file with a downloaded copy whereby someone else has done all the work.

Examle:

Direct link to hosts file:

That particular one is pretty extreme and you may find that you need to manually unblock sites (Downloads from mess.be stop working with it, for example), but overall it's quite effective.

Good for a quick-fix solution to all advertising/malicious crap however, and doesn't require a third party app.
