Who would've thought that Bob Carr could talk like good 'ol Dubya?

Talking about the M7 on the news, he stated "travel times will be halved by 50%" :p

Shows that an american is not the only one who can speak like this

Maybe this is a grammatical error on your part, you cretin.

Travel times will be halved (new sentence) - (clarification/emphasis) - By 50%

Yes they will.

Carr is the most literate of the Premiers. I see no mistake.

To make one mistake in how many years as premier/MP versus making god knows how mnay in just 5 years as president/campaigning for president still looks pretty good.

Thats even denying the truth in what iron woman says - that he did NOT make a mistake.

It was on channel 9 news and he said it in one complete sentence. As for its relevance, it was a politician (Bob Carr) talking about a current event (M7) on the news (channel 9), so how much more relevance do you want.

But the point is i have only heard Dubya say stuff like this, not aussie politicians, so this add weight to the question about america's influence on australia

Everybody has stuff ups. It is not indicitive of "American" influence.

I'm afraid that if you think this somehow adds weight to the "Americanisation of Australia", you need stop being so paranoid.

Considering Bob's been around far longer than you I'd be inclined to think that he is more British than you and less American than you. This doesn't mean he's not going to say silly things. EVERYBODY DOES, even the most well-spoken of people.

Actually, i'm not paranoid about the influence, but it does seem that many people are, and they may use this as evidence, along with the hip-hop and that, that america does have an influence, as it is now affecting our politicians.

But the weird part about it is this is the first time i've heard an aussie politician say something like this.

Wow, political discussion has been taken to a new Year 2 level.

Actually, it's not new, since people have thought for a while that making fun of a speech disorder is political commentry.

Saying something stupid is a speech disorder now?

It's childish to laugh at Bush's numerous stuff-ups, but really, you'd laugh no matter who said it.
