Hey everyone

I was just curious if anyone knew any context for Brian Blessed's King Lear, for example Peter Brook's version was made at the height of the Cold War and as people suffered due to World War 1 and 2.

So I ask why did Brian Blessed produce his with Christian values.

If any ideas please help.

Thanks

it was made in 1998. I think Blessed emphasised the christian elements of the play due to his personal paradigm - he is probably a christian, therefore he is more closely aligned to a christian reading of the play.

The costuming of cordelia as she approaches her death is interesting - i didn't pick up on the fact that she was wearing blue which is meant to be symbolic of the virgin mary but i still think its pretty interesting....

what scenes are you guys looking at? as really good example of the christian reading? ???
