Hi,

Congrats and welcome to UWS - and especially if you're coming to Campbelltown campus My name's Luke and I currently run a student society called Engage, which you'll see a fair bit of in O-Week. We're essentially a group of students that want to drastically improve the extracurricular life of uni at Campbelltown, by building a large student community out of the 5,500 students that attend this campus.

We've just (as in, literally in the past couple of hours) finished setting up our forums and website, which are open to all UWS students - but as the focus is really on Campbelltown, it mightn't be as relevant for those who don't attend the campus. So join up, and learn what's happening on O-Week, and what you can do to make your university experience that much more better

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but similar things have been done by people trying to liven up the UWS social scene and failed (Especially by law and med students trying to up their extracurriculars). They usually have big plans with little practical outcomes. If there's one facebook group prospective UWS students should join then www.facebook.com/onlyatUWS is your best bet.

Yeah, I know - but there's nothing worse than not trying; all that's achieved through that is, well, nothing. I think it's a matter of putting in the effort, encouraging those who are eager to make a difference, and persevere - and with this, I believe it can be done because Campbelltown is a great size to develop a community, and are full of people who want to make this happen; it can't be done by one person's efforts. For those reading this as well as yourself, med and law both have student societies dedicated to their course that run successful O-camps every year; speaking from personal experience, a significant proportion (easily more than half) of 1st yr meddies go to the medcamp along with some stragglers from other grades, other social events such as medball and medrevue are attended by hundreds (consider the entire cohort is only ~400), and our attendance rates for elections are well over two-thirds of the entire cohort - I think those are signs that they haven't failed.
And yep, that's a great facebook group for UWS students to join
