Well yes your school chooses the prescribed text but you pick related texts.

Funny story you can actually do whatever text you want in the HSC.

Your school picks certain prescribed texts that you should DEFINITELY do for your exams but nothing is stopping you from picking any of the random prescribed texts to write an essay on.

I don't recommend going against your school prescribed text though.

They should really design your paper such that it follows the HSC format, i.e. gives you all the options of prescribed texts.
