It's just a bunch of glucose monomers inverted an joined together (minus the H2O), i don't remember what the glucose monomers look like atm, but they're not too hard to remember.

draw a hexagon, with O at 1 vertex and a CH2OH chain by it sides and OH groups on every other C atom. the OH groups at the end of the hexagon adjacent to the the carbon atom with the CH2OH, faces in the opposite direction to that part while the OH group by the O atom is in the same direction as that atom, these (beta)glucose monomers join together with the CH2OH in alternate directions, where as in starch they face the same direction...

its really hard to explain verbally, there should be a diagram in most books..

umm u dont hafta know it pictorially....just know it systematically...eg

HO-C6H10O4-OH + HO-C6H10O4-OH +HO-C6H10O4-OH +

and 'OH' group and an adjacent 'H' are ejected out as water molecules during polymerisation

and...the 'O' that remains is the beta-1-4-glycosidic bond...but i wouldnt worry too much aboot that

this is taken from roland smith so u might wanna check up that reference to clarify

HAHAHAHAHA i dunno why i'm still up... i so should be sleeping as daylight saving starts over the weekend.... but since im up, and im bored here u go:

i left out the H atoms, which fills up the remaining spots... this is a beta-glucose monomer, the 2 Hydroxy groups at the end react to form a bond by condensing out a water molecule

........CH2OH
.........|................
........C-------O....OH
....../..............\...|
..C/..................\C
..|..\..OH........../
.OH.\..|........../
.........C____C
....................|
...................OH

As you can see... i will surely fail ext2 maths on monday :D

lol.. that's fantastic haha.... (waay too much time on ur hands mate)

wit cellulose remember u got the ch2ch group and the O on alternating sides of monomer units.. so like.. take the pic above and draw it upside down for the adjoining monomer... (???)
