ANY UAI-qualifying subject is good, only if you put your effort in.

Textile is not a good subject to have as part of your UAI calculation. You can only do your best and hope you rank well within that subject.

if you do well in textiles and your remaining subjects, then i dont see why you cant get a UAI of 80+

Just go extremely well in it, along with your other subjects, and it won't affect your chances of getting an 80+ UAI adversely.

doubt it...most of the 'conventionally risky subjects' are capped making it impossible to get a UAI that high. However, it doesn't mean you still can't get a super fantastic UAI in the 90's...

textiles will probably automatically drag your UAI down by about 10 - 15 UAI points.

:) i'm not quite sure how you 'doubt' my post?

our dux last year got 99.90

she also did drama + no maths

perhaps it will be more beliveable if i mention she also did extension history and extension2 english (i think)

but there's no doubting she got that mark and defied the stereotypes. ;)

Good rank, decent candidature = great results for poor scaling subjects.

However, doing "ok" in textiles isn't as good as doing "ok" in ext 2 maths. If you like the course then you should be doing well. If you're not then you shouldnt keep it just because you like it. If you're in a position where you can't change your position.... :p ....

Suck it up, study, and flog it. Still plenty of time.

textiles and design is a subject that you cant afford to do just average in [that is, a mark in the 70s/band 4]

A mark in the band 5 range is very good, and shouldnt bring your UAI down. but it all depends on how you go in your other subjects too.

and no, doing textiles does not automatically drag your uai down to 10-15 points.
