Discuss! :)

My favourite is MOTOR, for obvious reasons.

I've started buying SPEED, which is a well rounded magazine - sometimes their writing standards seem to be lacking a little, but no magazine is immune to shitty writers (it's hard to find people who know what they're talking about and can talk about it in an interesting, informative way).

I also buy Fast Fours and Zoom on occasion (they're about fast four and six cylinders, unlike some). I've bought SM a few times, but sometimes their bogan writing tone and style annoys me (it's good to be patriotic but a line has to be drawn somewhere...). I used to buy wheels heaps, but they've become more of a "car buyer's guide" than a bible for the enthusiast. They are waaay too formal nowadays (informative rather than entertaining), and they drive too many shitboxes. They've become too political for my liking, since Ged Bulmer took over. But they're very professional, and have some great photos (so do SPEED).

Don't get me started on HOT4s. Let's just say they're the scum of the proverbial fish tank. ;)

Yeh so obviously a part of car culture is reading car mags, so what are your favourites and for what reasons do you love em? Similarly, what are your opposites and for what reasons do you LOATHE em?

I very much enjoy SPEED and I think the magazine is cleverly aimed at a niche not targeted before. Love the S15 in this month's issue <3

I used to also like wheels very much but my preferences are tipping more towards motor now.

I used to get all those mags for free off the newsagency :D I liked most of them but I only ever paid for fastfours. I like this one because the articles are of a better standard than others I've read and they cover car audio as well as performance. Motor and wheels were usually a pretty good read but yeh I probably wouldn't pay money for them...
I'd have to agree that hot4's isn't that good and I didn't like zoom too much either

I'll also found a new interest in F1 Racing since the series is actually starting to involve racing.
Haha ... so true Argo! But the mag has evolved some what over the past few years. It just used to be about the glamour side and what the drivers ate for lunch, but now it looks at the technical aspects of set ups which are quite enjoyable to read.

Although, its a bit expensive for some glossary pages. I have a subscription and it cost $69 a year, i think from memory, not that bad. But I didn't get my free ferrari poster :(

Each to their own, friends. :) Wheels, Speed, SM, Motor, AutoAction... all are produced in the same building by Australian Corporate Publishing (ACP). The idea is to have an umbrella over every car enthusiast and to cover ALL tastes - you make the most money this way. We simply have different tastes!

True slip...but 0.1.1 if there big cars, how are big engines over sized for them? An oversized engine is a 3.0 ltr 2jzgte in a ta23 celica!
oh, the amount of engine swaps that are worse...

keeping with toyotas, 4.0 V8 into same celica

or 351 into capri or escorts.... :s

640 into capri

I've been trying new car magazines to scope them out and draw the cars.

I'm in favour of: Wheels, Speed and Motor
I've got: Redline and J Tuner
