So coming from a low socio-economic background, is it possible to become a commercial pilot? After visiting a careers expo I realised how expensive the courses offered were. Of course, the people there were advertising and many rich schools were there, but is it not possible at a lower cost? For reference, https://basair.com.au/diploma-of-aviation-commercial-pilot-licence-aeroplane/ wants $92,000 and they offer on-campus gym, cafeteria, and rooms (my dream!!!); and UNSW wants $175,000 which I obviously don't have.

There is a local airport near to where I live, but I'm not sure if they do commercial for larger planes (the runways are too short anyway, perhaps the new airport could be an option?)

in the same boat, yes it is very costly to get in. Although there are competitive scholarships you can obtain. I believe quantas offers one. Definitely apply, but in general the cost to break into commercial flying is extremely expensive
