Given that the syllabus states that we should, not must, research a case study, does this suggest that the use of a case study in our response will not be compulsory but will be an option as in previous years?

Yep, I have a case study prepared and ready to go but I just wondering if that minor technicality in the syllabus is enough to prevent BOS from making a case study compulsory in Section IV.

I myself dont think they will include it. They have had a question pertaining to it in most past years.

The "should" was changed to "must" in the 2006 syllabus.
It was a clarifying change, and so i dont think they would add a specific question on it in this year's HSC exam.

If globalisation is a topic they choose, it'll be along the lines of "Analyse the impact of globalisation on Australia or another economy you have studied" i.e something that is broad and allows you to talk about Australia.

Having said that, i would still recommend you know your case study just incase.
