Explain why energy input is necessary to extract a metal from its ore?

Identify why there are more metals available for people to use now than there were 200 years ago?

Please help =[

Gosh this feels like so long ago...

Increased innovations in technology have resulted in our ability to extract more metals that previously weren't able to be extracted even though we knew of their existence. Also due to increased mining, discoveries of more metal resources are being made leading to widespread availability of metal.

That's just off the top of my head mate - Hope that helps.

I laffed for no apparent reason.

In essence, ions form ore (reactivity); pure substances remain as is. The product metal has more energy than the reactants, the ore, therefore energy must be added to cause the decomposition (and reduction) of the ore to occur.

Breaking down of bonds between the constituent substances; it is endothermic.
