i was wondering with cyclohexane, is two adjacent axial methyl groups considered cis isomerism even though one is pointing up and the other in pointing down or are they only cis if they are both point up or down (meaning that they have to be positioned with a carbon between them)?

Roughly, I know that the two bromine atoms in 1,2-cisdibromoethane are next to each other and two bromine atoms in 1,2-transdibromoethane are diagonal to each other, e.g the 1st bromine atom can be on the top left and the 2nd bromine atom on the bottom right.

Soooo in cis isomerism, all atoms (e.g halogens) are either all the way on the top or all the way on the bottom of the axial bonds.
