The concentrations of ions found in freshwater sources vary considerably and are usually much less than those found in seawater. Explain these observations.

I'm not so sure how to approach this question. I said to my teacher that since many freshwater sources or streams which contain ions lead to the ocean, it is therefore that seawater would contain more ions than freshwater...But teacher said it doesnt really answer the question so I have no idea...

I would appreciate any help, thanks

From what i remember, differences between sea water and fresh water in terms of total dissolved solid
- sea water has less ca2+ ions as marine organisms use it to make shells, and fresh water has more as it runs off from limestone CaCO3
- sea water has high (i think 3%) salt that is NaCl, thus have much more Na and Cl ions than fresh water

is there anything else?
