Hello ppls,

I uninstalled the limewire (not pro) because since about last week whenever I started it a blue screen of death comes up for less than a second (I can only see lots of writing) before the comp. restarts. Today tried Limewire pro but it is doing the same thing now. I have also found that opening AD Aware, after it loads up fully, will come blue screen and restart my comp.

Any ideas of whats going on? I scanned comp. for virus (AVG) and scandisk and its all clean ...

Maybe it's a sign to turn to the legal side :p

But seriously, it sounds like a hardware/driver conflict or similar. Installed anything new recently?

I am legal (like i said, Ive been using the normal version), I just tried pro to see what happened. The fact that I could of used pro before shows just how legal I am :)

I am on a laptop here, no new hardware at all. Only installed two programs recently: OpenCube Infinite Menus and InstantCopy ... Oh, and the game M&M9

Kind of useless, but if you go to Control Panel -> System -> Adv -> Startup and Recovery, you can uncheck 'Automatically restart', and next time it happens you can write down what the bsod says then google/ask about it.

Thanks Reaver, at least now I get to see my enemy. The blue screen that comes up before restart says:

~~~~~
A problem has been detected and windows has shutdown to prevent damaged to your computer.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable the BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or diable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Options, and then select Safe Mode.
Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000000D1 (ox82c0000, etc)
*** w22n51.sys. Address F7BIC988, etc
Beginning dump of physical memory.
Is there any way I can pin-point where the problem is coming from. On devide manager everything looks good.
Im scared to reinstall windows because with my laptop I didnt get the XP Pro cd but have two cd's that say:
- Operating System CD (Microsoft Windows XP Pro SPS 2): contains softwre and drivers already installed. For software reinstallation and repair only.
- Driver Recovery DVD: contains softwre and drivers already installed. For software reinstallation and repair only.
Plus, there is a massive 1gig+ folder in my C driver that was there from the beginning ... Im not sure what these mean?
Try getting new drivers for everything. If anything, you'd use the Driver Recovery CD or getting new drivers individually from the net, but if you use the CD read everything it says and don't click 'System Recovery'... unless you want to wipe everything ;)
Ive been looking around. Found a couple of sites, but I dont understand them. eg.
http://www.technicallythere4you.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1103
http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/p...te&REPLY_ID=107413&TOPIC_ID=17482&FORUM_ID=25
And I read that someone suggested:
"What i Found was if you
***!Flash The Bios!***
It clears it all out!"
I dont know what any of this means. Could someone please interpreate?
BTW, here is my comps. stats:
XP Pro
Laptop, compaq Presario B3800 Notebook
Intel PRO/Wiress 2200BG Network Connection ---> this sounds like the problem from other ppl ... how do I get a better version driver?
Haha, no, don't do that. The BIOS is what runs your motherboard more or less, the interface between hardware/software, determining how your computer accesses everything when you hit the power button.
Thanks guys, hopefully that will work. Will go to a mates to d/l later today.
Right now my driver is 8.0.12.20000
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...il_Desc.aspx?agr=&DwnldID=7819&ProductID=1637 seems to have 8.1.1.0 for Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, which is exactly what I have in my device manager.
http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/2...er-9.0.1.0-windows-2000-xp-free-download.html seems to have 9.0.1.0, but has some extra words at the end of it, e.g. Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG/2915ABG Network Driver 9.0.1.0 Windows, which isnt in my device manager.
Which do you suggest I get?
Thanks,
Ac
