Would the following working help?

PQRS is a square.

$\therefore RP=SQ\:and\:RP\:\perp \:SQ$

i.e. $\overrightarrow{SQ}=i\times \overrightarrow{RP}$

$q-s=i\left(p-r\right)$

Hence $s+ip=q+ir$
