Hey guys!!!

well Im in that stage of your life deciding what uni course to go to.. I have pretty much wiped software engineering out of my books @ UNSW but Com Science is still a big contender

Firstly if anyone does com science or is in the CSE falcutly could you please help me answer my questions

1. I did not do HSC Ex 1 maths. In fact I got 80 for 2 unit maths. Im not too bad at maths (although my mark says otherwise :p) and I like it but it says that i need to do a bridiging course (like some Maths 10** or something). Would I struggle? Do you know any ppl that did 2 unit, doing it?

2. I ultimately want to be involved in managment later on, so i was wondering what should I combine Com Science with? Commerce/Com Science?

I was looking at the course content (specially the electives) and I really like wat the course is offering. I have done Sem1 and 2 for Cisco CCNA and i throughly enjoyed that and anything computer realated i enjoy... Specially interested in neural networks and cryptography

Thanks... btw my UAI 90.80, that should make the cutoff shouldnt it?

It is possible to get through first year maths without having done 3 unit in high school since everything is taught to you during the semester. You won't struggle if you manage to keep up - this is easier said than done. It is highly recommended that you do the bridging course if you have not done 3 unit. For comparsion, you might've spent a whole term working with complex numbers in 4 unit in high school - complex numbers is the first topic taught in Math 1a algebra, and its all over in 2 weeks - which is about 4 one hour lectures.

If you do...why not then? :)

Do realise that first year is always riddled with other subjects that you feel might not be relevant (eg, alot of maths). In one of your semesters 18 of your 24 units of study will be maths - only 6 units will be computing. This gets better as you move up when more and more of your subjects become COMP, and by 3rd year you will be specialising and mostly be doing COMP subjects.

Traditionally comp sci cut off has always been around 85.

More like SDD gave me an indicator that I dislike doing something computer-related as my career.

I hate learning about computer/programming. Though I love to use them :D

Oh yeah, and if you want to eventually go into management an MCom maybe a better option than BCom as it makes you sound more senior and 'qualified' (course content is going to be virtually identical though)

I agree with sunny's comments. :)

And commerce would be good if you can get into it.

I cant get into Commerce but I was looking at the book...

A major in physcology would be very interesting (thats my view)...

Com Sci is definately up the top of my preferances

If you're more interested in management and commerce, look at BIT.. even though I loathe the degree and think it's an awful slight on computing everywhere, you do a mixture of commerce and comp...

I think you're talking about me mclake? :)

I did 2 Unit maths and rejoiced when I passed both my maths courses in first session because a couple of lecturers told me they didn't expect me to pass and most 2U people failed. I don't think they take into consideration that the 2 Unit HSC maths course is a bit more advanced nowadays then it was before.

Yeh, that's what my old maths teacher said. She said the new 2 unit maths course is harder than the old one before they reformed the HSC.

LOL!! Actually it's easier from the maths assignment we did and analyzing the syllabus, i mean for Linear Functions, i don't recall we had to know how to find the equation of a third line, i forgot what it's called but it was taken out.

And my teacher had a 1985 Maths Syllabus so we looked at that and it barely changed much to todays one.
