Programs is the overall degree.
Courses are the classes which go to make up your degree.
Specialisations are the majors avaliable for all degrees. When you do a specific degree, your choice of major will be narrower.
Area of interest is just to help you find what your interested in.

Um, also, it's a good idea to email the relevant faculties just to make sure whatever you think is going on in the handbook is correct. There's quite a bit of cruddy information in there, especially in the education section.

Area of interest is jsut general groupings.. which I don't belive to be too relevant.

Basically what you should do is to look at the "specialisations" (majors), and pick the one you would like to have, then there will be list of "programs" (which corresponds to whats in the UAC book) that you should take to study that specialisation

By the way.. nanotechnology is listed under engineering.. and it should be there anyway..

Majors are rarely altered, or deleted off our Handbook. It is best to consult the relevant faculty however to check whether your major really does exist.

It's usually the degrees that get scrapped, rather than the majors within the degrees. If I recall correctly, one degree was B Sci/B Med which was wiped off the handbook.
