It is modern, and therefore more secular and humanistic as opposed to the religious days of Chaucer, you also have the US which is ostensibly the land of opportunity and this is played off of with the theme of greed.

^correct

a good quote to support that would be "the american dream" quote. you could also tie it as "modern day", for example, in chaucer's context, religion was the way to engage an audience & tap into people's fears. in raimi's context, religion is not the best way to engage an audience, thus needs to create a different way to do so. the fear to be alone, segragation from society is a more effective fear. Talking about the way in which these two contexts and the difference the authors engage their audience says a lot about the two societies and the change of context between them

hope it helps

Its actually context is that of the late 80s and early 90s farming america. It was set during the farming crisis when big buisnesses were taking over farms. Many farmers committed suicide because they were in debt. (ie how hank and jacobs father dies) And then talk about what everyone else has mentioned.

so i guess you also talk about the change to capitalism and the more protected society - Chaucer saw a lot of death and destruction from the plague, whereas in a simple plan, each time someone dies, theres a huge commotion
