What do you do if the control tests are contaminated / show that other variables were acting on the experiment? How do I even write a discussion / conclusion without reliable / valid / accurate results?
Don't be too disappointed if you discovered your control specimen was contaminated or behaved in some what that you did not anticipate. It happens all the time in science. You should try to track down the identity of the contaminant or the source of the uncontrolled variable and discuss how it contributed to the results that you obtained. That's part and parcel of doing real science.
Remember the story of Alexander Fleming and his discovery of penicillin . That discovery happened through a contaminated petrie dish.
