The demand for online tutors is growing at a rapid rate especially amongst students who live in outer suburbs and remote areas where it is hard to find high quality tutors. Even within major cities like Sydney, Melbourne etc. more and more parents are looking for trusted online tutors for their kids because it is more convenient and saves travel time.
I'm Atul, founder of www.wisekangaroo.com. Wisekangaroo is a marketplace for convenient online tutoring via live video. Think of it like Skype + ebay for tutors. On Wisekangaroo you can search, hire and learn, instantly from anywhere. All you need is a computer, webcam and Internet access.

For Students
Ready to use Wisekangaroo to find a tutor and learn online? Here are a few tips to get started.
There are 2 ways to learn online on Wisekangaroo:
1. Post A Live Tutoring Request (Tutors Come To You)
Need someone to help you right now on a topic? No worries!
Type in your subject and hit "Ask Live" on the home page. This posts your request to the live feed dashboard. Here you can add more details and interact in real-time with online tutors. Once you are comfortable with a tutor as them to send you a virtual classroom request.
All virtual classroom sessions start as free sessions. Take your time to make sure the tutor is right for you. If the tutor wishes to charge for the session they will send you a payment request in the virtual classroom. The session will pause until your make the payment. Once the payment has been successfully made your virtual classroom session will resume.
2. Schedule An Appointment With A Tutor (You Search and Choose a Tutor)
Enter the name of the subject in the search bar and click "Search" to bring up a list of tutors in your subject. Browse their profiles and read reviews from other students. Once you find a suitable tutor for your subject click "Book Now" to make an appointment with the tutor.
Tutors will usually respond within 24 hours. If the tutor confirms the booking then go to the "My Bookings" page from the main menu (Click on your user name at the top right corner of the home page to bring up the menu). At the time of the scheduled booking click on the "Chat" link for the booking to start the virtual classroom.
If the tutor wishes to charge for the session they will send you a payment request in the virtual classroom. This will pause the session until your make the payment. Once the payment has been successfully made your virtual classroom session will resume.

Ready to use Wisekangaroo to expand your tutoring business? To get started, you'll need to first get approved.
At Wisekangaroo, we want to create a safe and convenient online destination for students to find the right tutor and so we screen all our tutors to make sure that they have consistently high qualifications in subject matter expertise and experience in online tutoring. You won't be able to start tutoring until the steps below are completed (so it's really important to do these!).
Getting started with Wisekangaroo involves just two simple steps:
1. Create Your Tutor Profile and Submit It For Approval
Sign up as a tutor on www.wisekangaroo.com and fill up your profile as completely as possible including your rates and Paypal Id (so that we can send payments for tutoring sessions instantly to you).
While setting your rates please take into account that we charge a 15% commission on all paid tutoring sessions and there is a Paypal fees (2.4% + $0.30 AUD).
Submit your profile for approval (scroll down the page until you see the "Submit For Approval" button)
Email us a scanned copy of a valid criminal background check and Work With Children Check for our records at hello@wisekangaroo.com. If you do not have one, I encourage you to get one soon.
2. Teach Online Using Wisekangaroo's Online Virtual Classroom
Got your profile approved? Awesome!
Now all you need to do is wait for a student to book a tutoring session with you. All student bookings are available under the "My Bookings" menu (Click on your user name at the top right corner of the home page to bring up the menu). At the time of the scheduled booking click on the "Chat" link for the booking to start the virtual classroom.
Want to see live tutoring requests from all students? Simply click on the "Ask Live" button (without any search term) to bring up the live feed dashboard. Here you can interact with the students live and start a virtual classroom session if the student is ready.
All virtual classroom sessions start as free sessions. To charge for a session click on the "Convert to Paid Session" anytime from within the virtual classroom and set the price for the session. This will pause the session until the student makes the payment. Once the payment has been successfully made your virtual classroom session will resume.
