They gotta try, seriously, kids can practically roll their way to school and it's getting worse. Go Veggie monster XD
yeah but like, he's the cookie monster! maybe it would be more effective if they showed him getting progressively fatter and dying of a heart condition at the end of the season. most sesame street viewers can't even understand what he's saying anyway.

rofl! Ohh God your nice, a race of terrified <5 year olds, scared of dying from too many cookies. Yeah I get your point tho. America should have thought of this before spamming it on television for so many years. I suppose they should really just aim at cutting him out of the show instead of implementing some new side kick... I'm not sure if it'll work tho, it's not as if kids can't taste the difference between a cabbage leaf and a cookie -_-'. You can't brainwash kids to eat stuff that tastes crap... Instinct kicks in.

It isn't the cookie monster eating cookies that is the problem, it's that those kids are seeing him eat cookies! They should be out doing hard labour like in the good old days. Stick them on a giant wheel and make them generate electricity, or pump water like they do in Africa with kiddies :)

Sesame Street has decided to concentrate on how to have a healthy lifestyle. This is an excellent thing. Television shows like Sesame Street can be an important socialisation agent.
Cookie Monster would completely undermine this message. So, that would leave two options- get Cookie Monster to learn some moderation, or retire the character from the show altogether.
Cookie Monster's personality is not being changed. As the article says, he's still Cookie Monster. He won't be giving up cookies either.
Calling it 'political correctness gone crazy' is an absurd overreaction to what is essentially a positive move by the show.

shut up. listen to yourself. it is political correctness gone crazy. and don't you think that making the cookie monster learn moderation is an absurd overreaction to what is essentially a deeply entrenched social problem? this message undermines the cookie monster's very reason for being. people like you piss me off. I can see where you're coming from, but i pity your children (should you ever have any) for their being wrapped in cotton wool all of the time.

kaylz, with the line 'and don't you think that making the cookie monster learn moderation is an absurd overreaction to what is essentially a deeply entrenched social problem?' you seem to be suggesting that even such a small step in the right direction is not a worthwhile move in the fight against childhood obesity. Times change, and it is good to see a show such as Sesame Street recognise that it does have important role to play (not the role, but a role).

There is no need to tell another member (one with a more than adequate response, anyway) to shut up, too.

okay. i think it's a small step, in a positive direction. Such a trivial one, that it makes me wonder why they've bothered at all. perhaps exercise as a compulsary part of all education would be a better thing. My primary school made everyone do half an hour of aerobics every morning to start the day, and they did lunch box inspection. They actually had the right to confiscate unhealthy food four out of five days in the school week. That kind of proactivity might sove the problem, not the cookie monster trading in his signature line.

If I had a kid I would never let them get obese. As soon as I started noticing them putting on weight I would start getting them outside exercising and playing sport several times a week. And if they continued to to put on weight I would start doing it every day. If you are such a lazy parent that you don't do anything about your kids being overweight you shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

yeah we had to do that too. we didnt have lunchbox checks but the canteen refused to sell anything unhealthy on certain days, and when they did they wud try to discourage u like "but why dont you try these fruit cups instead?" and so on. and we had compulsory attendance and participation at all the sporting carnivals. i used to hate being made to swim in the swimming carnival each year, but i guess looking back it was a good thing to be doing.
