when one atom donte a pair of unpaired electron to form a covalent bond, i coordinate covalent bond is formed... in lewis dot structure, it helps to indicate coordinate covalent bond by drawing and arrow on top of the pair of electrons... tail at the donating atom, pointing towards accepting atom...

once formed, coordinate covalent bond is not distinguishable from the normal coordinate covalent bond...

eg: CO, O<sub>3</sub>

Shouldn't that be "normal covalent bond"?

Maybe because some teachers don't address them until dealing with the atmospheric chemistry and ozone in Chemical Monitoring and Management?

its better explained with diagrams, in just words it get to be a little bit of a jumble look in your textbook mate, under ozone will do if theres no topic on the co ordinate covalent bonds

Agreed.

geniass, the distinction that's being made with co-ordinate covalent bonds is that one atom is donating the two electrons (pair) for bonding, instead of one of the atoms sharing one and the other sharing another. I.e one atom in a ccb donates BOTH the electrons and the other atom none. However the point xiao was trying to make was that once that bond forms, the strength properties of it become identical to a normal covalent bond.
