Hey, I'm looking for some advice.
I want to go to Syndey Uni and eventually do an Arts/ Law degree but I don't think I'll be able to get the 99.55 UAI needed to apply. I'm also interested in Psychology, so I was thinking of doing an Arts/ Science degree for one year, doing Psych as part of the science and a language out of Arts. Then after first year if I get good enough grades I'll transfer to just an Arts/ Law degree and take the Psycholgy as a minor in Arts.
Can I actually do this, or am I just deluding myself? Also, how hard is it to transfer courses? My careers counselor at school sucks, so I'd really appreciate some feedback.
Thanks!

nah according to the good uni guide UWS is apparantly the best place for psychology, but their prestige is shit....USYD is apparantly the 2nd best place for psychology, and their prestige is good so USYD wins...and macq and uts are worse.

Macq uni actually has a LLB / B Arts (psychology) degree, which I guess combines everything you want to do. I considered doing that degree, because I wanted to do psych and I got high enough marks, so everyone was pushing me to do Law. Remember it has a massive drop out rate, so you gotta be willing to spend A LOT of time reading, and working ur arse off. Most Law students (getting good grades) that I know, don't have lives.

You should check out all the unis and see which has the most suitable degree. Don't look at the prestigeness or look at how pretty usyd is. It's full of shit. USYD has got to be the less technologically advanced of all the unis. the admin is crap, and a lot of people are moving away. UTS has now become the best uni for architecture, etc.

In regards to your first question, yes you can do that. You can also do a B Psych (it's 96 i think) and transfer to Arts/Law, or you can do straight out arts and add the Law on.

Let me also tell you that psych is demanding and you need a credit avg and in some cases a distinction avg (it depends on the degree).

But i reiterate - look at ALL courses at ALL unis. I have friends at macq who could have gotten into usyd, but the courses at macq are so much more flexible and you can mix many of the bachelors.

Edit: macq law degrees stop at 95-96UAI (i think - well they did when i did my hsc) so it's a bit more easier to get into. not like the ridiculous 99.6 usyd expects!

Egggh. I hate you lawyers. There's too many of them already. Clogged courts and boardrooms.

They've become redundant with the growth in trade practice and electronic markets. Grow a brain - get your B. Com (Hons).

What about ANU Science (Psychology)/Law? One of the girls from my year is doing it. I'm not sure what the cut-off is, but it is noway near as high as USYD Law! I guess, being in ANU, it is a bit of a hole, but that could be an alternative, I guess?

What do you mean a bit of a hole? It is the top ranked uni in Australia.

Ok how can you be studying to teach English and use phrases like "more easier".

Well it depends on whether the thread starter wants to move to Canberra. There are other options in Sydney :)

the best part about unis like mq, they give you more of an option with your degrees. You can mix degrees like LLB and Psych, etc. Plus like I said the LLB's at mq are no more than 96.

  • Capitalisation.
  • "Oh" should be followed by a comma.
  • Started a sentence with "and".

Oh, and I am perfect.

What I meant by a hole was everything else non-uni-related, i.e. social life, etc, so whether they wanna stay in Canberra or Sydney is the thing. Yes, I heard ANU is actually the best uni in Australia.
