can anyone explain to me the court heirarchies of the States and Territories? There is a section about it at the end of the Laying Down The Law textbook we use, but my tutor has told me it's not correct, and i don't even understand it anyway :(

The hierachy?

From memory, its something like:

At state level:
Local Court
District Court
Supreme Court (single judge)
Court of Appeal/Full Supreme Court (I forgot if there;s a difference)

Then further appeal to:
High Court of Australia

So how do you know from the heirarchies where particular proceedings should be started where their appeals should be directed? Actually, the appeals bit makes sende.....is it basically any offence which doesnt have a specific court (Land and Environment, Drugs, Childrens, Family etc) start off in the Local Court? Gah, I think I'm just screwed anyways...not much point trying to fix that up...

OK, I can confirm that the HSC Exel Legal Studies trash is very wrong. I looked at my Hienemann Legal Studies text and both the Federal Coroner and Chns court is on par with the Local court.

I'm so sorry. Stupid me. :p

EDIT: P66
