Is there any simple way to get rid of the DVD region coding on Australian DVD players? I want to watch a DVD made for the US on a DVD play I bought in Australia, so there's a problem. Is it complicated getting rid of the region restriction?

I don't have a DVD burner. I just want to play it (no need to back it up)

i was once told that if u get a black texta and colour in that clear bit in the middle of the disc it gets rid of the code.
never tried it cause i have never had to, but give it a go i guess

I don't know if I'd want to try that, since it might actually stuff up the disc and it won't plat all.

well, if your dvd player is popular, just google for "[dvd player model number] region code" and you'll find numerous sites with step by step guides to changing ur region code. Not sure if its 100% legal ( i think it should be) but im sure it will work. good luck

look under dvd hacks

done and done
Thanx.
I found one "hack" for my DVD player on that site which apparently "came with the DVD player itself". I'm now wondering whether doing this might void the warranty (or even worse, stuff up the DVD player). The hack doesn't involve hardware, but just pushing some buttons on the remote.

If its pusing buttons on remote, i doubt it would void warranty. My LG dvd players seems to be region free (with no hacks). With the pioneer dvd player on my computer, i had to update its firmware to some cracked version of the net in order for it to be region free (you can find them firmware hacks on google). I think that would void warranty (unless i re-flash it to its original firmware???).
