Hey just wondering what you guys reckon is the minimum amount of words you could get away with in the creative writing response and still get a high band 5 to band 6?

Ah, minimum? Difficult to say.
Probably around 600. I usually write between 900-1100 and get 13-15/15. But, it all depends on your style and what you're saying. I wrote something for my half yearly that was very short, and scored very well - so it's pretty much dependent on your ability to write.
