..if you could help me..

Indian:
Books by Vikram Seth, Anita Desai, Jhumpa Lehari (especially Interpreter of Maladies, which is a collection of short stories)
Yann Martel, Life of Pi.
Chinese:
I liked the Joy Luck Club heaps. Most books by Amy Tan are good. Also, if you've read Chinese Cinderella when you were young, you could read Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah.

What are you doing for Ext2 Eng? Because I too am doing something along these lines...

I have a similar idea, except its not just modern culture, but roots of culture.
I am doing a bit of indian culture (being indian myself) and a blend of some others too.
But basically my sotry revolves around how, even through the cultures, and their rites are different, their philosophies are similar.

*sigh*...its sound really far fetched doesnt it?

wow.. that sounds really awesome.. so you're "r0oting culture" so to speak .. sorry, i know that sounds really dirty, but i didnt mean it in that way.. well.. thatz a really smart idea - because most philosophies are sooooooo simiLar .. thats fosure! .. it soo doesnt sound far fetched.. you'll do a greatnessed job!! :)
gooDLuck with it!

The Anita Desai recommendation is very solid.

Basically any book you read though is an exploration in some way of the culture it comes from, so any book that isnt Australian should do.

Whats the Australian culture?

Its something you could talk about for hours and not get anywhere. A book you read is just a representation of one persons opinion of what that culture is.

australian culture is so hard to define .. argh!
yes, i totally agree with you when you say itz a representation of one personz opinion, thatz why i need several books - by various authors.. to get a diff. perspective each time .. so.. yeh :uhhuh:

Australian Culture?
A mixture of McLeod's Daughters, Home and Away and Kasey Chambers
:D

But, cultures are constantly changing, so its hard to talk about them, unless you specify context really well.
