Hey guys,
I was just wondering if people on here want to continue studying art after the HSC at Uni or TAFE, and what job/career you are hoping to eventually work in....

Also, don't feel excluded if you're not at school anymore! If you're currently doing something art/design related at Uni or TAFE - share with us what course you're doing and where you hope to go with it.

I'll get the ball rolling....

At the moment I hope to study Art Education at CoFA, to become an art teacher obviously.... I'd also really like to be a Creative Arts Co-Ordinator eventually, and get my Masters in Art Ed.

Your turn ;)

I see this as a dead end job. You never end up doing your own work as my teachers complain all the time. You could be head teacher by 30 and where is there to go after that. You colud change schools but what joy is there in that. You would have to be on everybodies good side to get to marking. I heard my teacher say she doesn't lick enough a....... to get appointed to prac marking so I assume the is an in crowd and an outcrowd.

Fancy meeting the top of your field at 30 with no where to go. Who wants to be a deputy or a principal no art there.

I suggest you have a plan B

my year 8 art teacher was our deputy/acting principal so she was raely in class. pity, she was a great teacher lol

i'm doing a bachelor of fine art at UNCLE. i'll prob major in 2D stuff because you can't major in art theory/history :( yes, i'm a freak who loves theory :D

i want to work in a gallery for a while (administrator/curator) as well as work as a critic. i'd also love to be paid to do research into art history and become a historian with my name on the cover of school kids textbooks lol

That's the thing though, I don't WANT to advance anymore - I want to teach art, I want to be around young people, I want to work in a place full of learning, I want to educate young people about the thing I love most. I want to be the co-ordinator and try and get stuff actually happening, so the arts department is recognised for once....
And hey, one day I may decide I'd rather be teaching in tertiary education, or I may decide I just want to be an artist. These days people usually do go for a career change at some point.
Plan B is an artist anyway. But I know it wouldn't be a good idea for me - as much as I hate structure, I've come to realise I need it to properly function. Without structure I become lazy, I procrastinate.... I avoid seeing people and eventually become depressed, unmotivated and uninspired. At least being a teacher I know where I have to go, what I have to do, that there will be money in my wallet.
People are just so quick to tell others what is so bad about the teaching profession.... well hey, you wouldn't be too far in life without them.
