The open day was greatMight get more responses if you post it to the Macquarie University section...
Yeah it is at Macq.Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I'll move it over after he replies.
Is the maths hard?I'm not doing either of these degrees but I was thinking of adding the Applied Finance to my current degree (Commerce - Professional Accounting). It seems to be extremely interesting and there also seems to be a bit of math work (econometrics etc).
I'm not sure if you've done this but I always recommend one to jump onto the "what you will study section" and to copy and paste the unit codes into google so you can browse through the unit outlines and see what topics you learn on a week by week basis. You'll also be able to see the assignment structure.
I've gone ahead and moved this to the right section. Hopefully you'll get more replies there, especially since the MQ forum has been more active than usual lately.
That is good.I'd say it's harder than accounting maths (which is pretty simple), especially since maths extension one is assumed knowledge. I don't know how difficult it is but I know there are lots of maths units you can take to help prepare you.
I am in year 11,I'm currently doing a B Comm - Accounting + B Applied Finance and am quite liking it. I think your average finance student would find the maths in finance subjects to be tough, but for me its not so bad considering my circumstances (did 4u maths in high school, and a number of math/stat subjects at uni). Either way theres nothing really that they assume you already should know (except for simple algebra and maybe calculus) its just that those who have a stronger background in maths would generally pick it up quicker. e.g. I have a friend who did 2u maths for the hsc and is doing quite well in an actuarial studies degree (which is more than i can say for myself...)
So are you in Yr 12 and thinking of doing Eco/Fin at uni next year? What level maths are you doing?
Just following up on what Azure recommended before - you can click on the unit code listed here to get to a short description of each unit - this will give you a better idea of what you will learn in the degree.I am in year 11,
Yeah, I want to do Eco and Appfin.
I do 2U maths but do very well. I am not worried how hard it will be I am just curious what I will learn, how people like it and how Uni life is for everyone
