Hi,

my computer genius frnd said that Dell and FireFox dont work too well together,
which is my case, where FireFox keeps freezing and stuff.

Any other DELL users with similar problems?

Dell don't change windows much, they just put their branding on it.

That's shouldn't cause any compatibility problems at all...

yes this is a common problem which many dell users have...
to fix it follow these instructions

1. find chisel and hammer
2. remove dell branding

then it works fine...well it did for my friend...i cant imagine why hes not happy though...o well u can please everyone :)

Yeah in the end a dell computer is just any other old computer, but just with a dell logo slaped on the front. The components are still made by other manufacturers, just like a normal computer.......should be irrelevant when using firefox.

I recomend downloading and installing the latest version of firefox, if you still have problems, email your problem to them.

Beinging open-source, and having a policy to be the most stable browser around, they'll be more than happy to personly solve your problem.

What I've noticed using firefox, that it is non-responsive for a short time loading slow web-pages, maybe if your wait a little longer it'll become responsive agian showing the web-page/timeout message.

Hope that will help - phizz

p.s. A Dell is just like any other computer with its hardware. The preinstalled software and possible hidden changes they've done with windows might be the problem (this is a guess), who knows what dell does with the windows package they install on people computer. If you format and install windows (not using the recovery discs) you'll have a much more cleaner computer without the useless extra junk dell shoves on there.

whats so bad about dells?
Dells, like most brand-name computers, are generally over-priced and under-powered. Also, many geeks get annoyed when a mainstream user holds the opinion that Dells are better than other makes of computer (including home-made systems) for some unknown reason. I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard some novice say, "woah mum and dad bought me a new dell its so fast. Dells are the best, you should buy one blah blah blah" or "my computer should be able to play this game, i own a dell 6700xy whatever whatever". I think computer enthusiasts have more of a problem with novices who buy Dells as opposed to the actual computers. Anyway, geeks are an angsty bunch, I wouldn't pay too much attension if I were you. Just to reinterate ONE more time a Dell is like any other computer, just with some shitty preloaded software and a dell badge.

Actually, I find Dells are pretty competitively priced. Compare it to your average local PC shop, it is much cheaper.

But yes, while Dell's may be under-powered, the CPUs they use aren't that bad. They lack the potential to upgrade- they don't even have an AGP slot in the dimension 3000.

But that aside, Dell is doing well. I'm guessing their major market is business, where you don't go to the office to play Doom 3;)

you're quite spot on.

Dells are GREAT for businesses and small-large organisations that need many PC's with the same configuration.

It's one of the best when you need an SOE

oh and one other thing. Dell come with legal operating systems.. Windows XP costs like over 100 dollars by itself.. factor that into the price;). When you go out and build your own, we all use legit OS right??
