I was just wondering if any of u guys applied to any scolarships, if so which ones?

I was flipping through the UAC guide the other day and i ran into two scholarships offered by UNSW... so basically i had to run around like a psycho trying to get all the info and forms complete

I applied to the UNSW Co-Op Program as well as the Malcolm Chaikin Scholarship (also at UNSW)...

anyone apply for either or both, or as i mentiuoned earlier any other scholarship?

dont you need to get like 99 to get a scholarship
that's what i thought at first but with a bit of reading .. I guess it was just a rumour (if thats what ud ike to call it)... newyas...

as fakingtheday said.. the Co-Op needs 95.6 however they've also mentioned that if u expect to get at least 93.8 it would be worth applying...

even though im not excepting 93.8 i'm not losing anything by applying

as for the Malcolm Chaikin scholarship, it's not only based on academic merit

this is what it says in the UAC guide:

"Selection will be based on academic merit and interview performance. Consiedration may also be given to the reason for undertaking the course, demonstrated ability and personal qualities, including potential to contribute to the wider life of the university"

the application form required u to provide details of ur trial results and ranks as well as to enclose ur yr 11, 12 (half yrly and end of yr) school reports, a list of ur preferences and why u chose them (statement).... School contributions and stuff (School Captain, Vice, prefect... school magazine.. etc etc).... and interests as well as activities outside school ....

I don't think i'll get in because of my academic achievements... Im hoping i'll get in for all the other stuff on that list... I guess it probably all comes down to the interview... its worth applying... the Co Op scholarship provides $13 400 per annum tax free and between 9 and 18 months industry training. The Malcolm is valued at $15 000 per year for the duration of the course...

the only thing i lost was a couple of valuable hours of study!

I applied for Co-op @ UNSW.

Edit: damn, I wish the Malcolm Chaikin prize was also for Com or Com/Law - $15000/yr. Considering that CSP only costs around $5000/year, that additional $10000/yr would come in handy

I applied for a "University of Sydney Scholarship", and the ANU "National undergrad" though I don't think I have any chance at the latter (minimum UAI is 99).

You can get the Mc prize for commerce/science, science, or engineering. That's three MC prizes in total.

It used to be just science/commerce and science.

I didn't apply for MC - you essentially need above 99.

I applied for Co-op (photovoltaics) and Rural Engineering (photovoltaics/renewable, then electrical/photonics).

It seems that co-op is a popular option. I just looked it up- it says it is meant for "financially disadvantaged" students. So are you people financially disadvantaged, or are you just giving it a go anyway?

Co-op doesn't consider financial disadvantage AT ALL.

Rural Engineering does slightly consider financial disadvantage.

Co-op is where companies sponsor you to do a degree ($13,400) and give you industrial training (12 to 18 months worth).

ahh right. I think I was confusing it with "The Co-Op Scholars Charitable Society Scholarship"
