I formatted my computer last week and created two partitions. The partition on which XP is installed is 1.95GB, but only has 173MB of Free Space. When I ran the SP2 update, it failed because 600MB of Free Space is needed. Is there any way I can make space without having to format again? And if I do need to do it over again, how much space should the XP partition be?

Try deleting things you don't use to make more free space.

There are some freeware programs you can use to resize a partition without losing data (http://www.zeleps.com/), and other not free ones too like Partition Magic.

You can also try uninstalling bits of Windows you don't use - Add/Remove programs, Add/Remove Windows components.
