I haven't personally read this text, but I do this same module, and I suggest you should look for descriptive and emotive language and just try to imagine what the actual literal techniques are portraying. As in, a strong description of drought, can be a symbol of the pain and hardship experienced by farmers as they endure the drought and as a result the audience feels empathy for them and acknowledges their suffering.

Firstly though pick out all the literal techniques in the poem, and try to understand the effect they have on the audience, and what kind of visual images they create in your head, and you should be fine.

Hope this helps. good luck!
