Polskie Radio dla zagranicy - Forensics to look for DNA in Copernicus manuscript

Polish forensic scientists in Kraków have applied to the Jagiellonian University to carry out an examination of a manuscript by astronomer Nicolas Copernicus, hoping to bring up enough genetic material to compare with the skeleton discovered in Frombork, accepted to be that of the great man.

The investigators hope to find hair or other biological evidence.

Nicolas Copernicus was a graduate of the University. Head of the Jagiellonian University Library, professor Zdzisław Pietrzyk has initially agreed to the examination.

So far, researchers have collected hair from a book in Sweden, that had been for many years used by the astronomer and which was taken out of Poland in the 17th century.

The aim is to identify the same DNA in the samples taken from the manuscripts and the skeleton.

A reconstruction of the face of the man whose skeleton was discovered in Frombork, proved to be strikingly similar to known portraits of Nicolas Copernicus.
Who said those crazy Poles were useless.
If you don't know who Nic Cop is, you're probably a Muslim or a Fundy Christian. (I'll give you a hint, the earth isn't the centre of the univerise ;) )
