i was just wondering since the atar cutoff seems pretty high and many people in my school want to do it

Clearly yes, based on the ATAR which is a product of supply and demand.
That being said, even I wanted to study Comm/Eco back in the day but I decided against it and am glad I did. Eco in uni is a shedload harder and more mathematical than it was in high school!
