I'm allowed to go up to eng ext 1 but I'm genuinely concerned abt my rank from last year bc it was so horrendous and utterly repulsive that I physically can't even imagine how it managed to happen. I dont think im good with essays but tbh I have zero clue what I'm even good at in english other than liek poetry... or smth. I would argue that alot of my grade got dragged down bc I had a rotation between 3 teachers that should have their license revoked for how disgustingly bad they taught for 1.5 terms, then a dumb video assessment that to this day i still dont understand why they marked me so low, and then how much I hated the syllabus and everything in it.

I rlly like the current module abt reading to write in adv and I find the analysis part to be way better than the dogwater that was going on last year. My friends were literally surprised at me when i said i wasnt doing ext 1. I heard ext 1 has stuff similar and a more in-depth look at everything, plus I think it'll compliment my legal and econ to some extent ig. I'm already doing maths ext 1 and I'll be dropping mod history for eng ext 1. Is it worth going up?

Are you able to swap back to modern history if extension isn't right for you?

I dont think so but if j srsly flunk ext 1 then I can probably drop in y12 to only have 11 units (maths ext1 adv, eng adv, phys, econ, legal)

I would start off with E1 english, I did that in year 11 and found it so much more interesting and surprisingly easier. But soon after I felt like my teacher wasn't teaching so I dropped to advanced. I think you should definitely have a look and see how strong your cohort is at extension 1 english, and decide from there. But also if you do E1 in year 11, your school will probably make you do 14 units like I did, which means you can drop extension 1 english whenever you want

Do you really want to do ee1? over modhis? it's definitely a more enjoyable subject in comparison to adv, the analysis is definitely different and you go much more in-depth into your texts. A lot of the cohort ends up with an e4. The exam is also great, only two hours and two sections so it's really easy to prepare for. I have also seen a lot of people improve drastically in ee1, going from e3 marks to an e4! If you're not doing so well in it at some stage, there is so much room for improvement. My cohort all did better in ee1 than in adv too. Nevertheless, I'd pick it if you do really enjoy English and would do so over another subject.

Yeah i think i would enjoy ee1 over modhis since the course rn is just not resonating with me. Plus ee1 will likely help with essays in atleast legal. I'm just wondering since I heard from another person that ee1 is 2/3 thinking and 1/3 writing and if that's accurate?

I'd say that modern is a lot more work than ee1, so if you're feeling that way about the course now I'd change to ext.

It's a completely different style of writing to any other humanities subject but the more you write, think, and formulate arguments the better writer you will become, yes.

I'm not entirely sure abt 2/3 thinking and 1/3 writing, I don't think I would describe it like that. I think the course aims for you to think deeper and delve into the complexities of your text, not only about the micro-techniques but the macro techs within the text - also bringing in literary lenses as frameworks to analyse your text. I'd say it does demand higher-order thinking which is where 2/3 comes from, but then that applies to communicating that effectively and in depth in your essay; communicating those ideas effectively is still the most essential part of the subject - they both work in tandem.

mod his is very hard because its FULL of content trust me i spent around 1 term memorising everything to forget it all 3x. extension 1 is great imo its pretty easy and its so much less mundane than adv, and as they've said ^^^ the exam is indeed very easy its basically like an essay+ creative for the liteary worlds bit so u can walk in pretty much with a few memorised bases and get an e4. a band 6 in modern in endemically hard most get a b5 at very best. take e1 imo
