I'm pretty sure we do, we should at least know the conditions and be able to outline the process.

yeh, i never did thermal/steam cracking at school, but my tutor did it with me so i added them into my notes just to be on the safe side.

High molecular weight hydrocarbons are passed through hot metal coils along with steam, and are directly decomposed to ethane and propane. Steam or thermal cracking is carried out at 700-1000 degrees Celsius.

i get get conflicting information about diff temps from differtn sources? also is this true:

catalytic cracking=low temps and pressures+catalyst
steam cracking=high tempes adn pressures without catalyst??
