I normally start with question 3 cuz thats the essay i remembered back at home, so i can write non-stop

but im not utilising the 5min reading time, even i read the texts, after i finish question 3, i would've forgotten wots in the text and have to read it over again

3,2,1 BLAST OFF! hehe

Hey.
in an english seminar at school my advanced teacher told us to use our 10min time as follows.

1. READ essay question
2. Look at creative writing q (so your subconscience works on an idea while your doing other parts of the paper )
3. GLANCE, i stress GLANCE, real quick peek at the reading bit, DONT read it or read the questions or it might confuse all the preplanned stuff in your head for the essay, just quickly see what text types you've got, how many you have, how many questions(dont read them), how many marks are each of them worth...
4. break down the essay question and plan out your response for it in your head

THEN:
1. start with the essay,
2. then do the READING, because sometimes the creative writing will spring out of the reading (but you will know that already cos you checked that in your reading time...) or even if it doesnt, the reading could still be feeding ideas to your subconscience.
3. do the creative writing

ALLOCATE 40min for EACH QUESTION! don't try and add more min on the part you think your best at and take those min from the others, yeh 10 more min on the essay can get ya 1 more mark, but you could lose 5 in another section for cutting back on time *nods*

***AND this is from personal experience, i spent prob 65min on essay in the trial, got 13/15 but got like 8/15 for the other two sections...***

(and if you've read previous posts you'll know that my school didnt count the essay part of the exam as weighting on our assessment mark for the trial... so the 13/15 didnt count for anything but the crappy 8s did...but thats a whole other whinge...which wont happen in the actual HSC)

There ya go chums! all the best

i go in order, 1 2 then 3 because in some past HSC questions, the last question is related to knowing themes in one of the stimulua texts. this was also the case for some creative writing pieces as well

3 1 2

Your hand is fresh , you are gonna write your essay like crazy , you need good writing
this is why I start with the last section

I go on to question 1 because i know i dont spend as much time on it on the other sections , however reading here is always a problem.....

THe last section , need time to think be creative , if you did this section in the middle i would be too busy worrying about my time with the last section and wont do a good piece

hmm now i don't know what order to do
I usually do 312
but now i am considering 132

312 has advantage of fresh hand hence fast and neat writing for essay. 1 doesn't require as much writing as it involves reading and thinking, 2 because you can adapt it to suit your time and suddenly end it if you run out of time

132 no reading time wastes as noted above which might be better

i do 1 3 2
so i use the reading time to read the texts and then answer them straight away
i then do my essay because i know wat im writing and don't run out of time
and then do the creative last with whateva time i have left
because i find that u can use any amount of time to write the creative
the amount of time just depends on what you write

I do either 132 or 123, depends how much i like the question.

I'd be wary about doing 1 last, tho, i know someone who only lost 1 mark between the 2 english exams, and it was because they ran outta time for the reading task. On the other hand, if some eng freak like did it that way, it can't be that bad ;)

i just read q2 & 3 in the 10 minutes and try to think of ways to adept my roped essay/creative to the questions...i don't bother looking at q1 otherwise i'll get confused =/

after 10 min, i race into q3 then 2 and fnally finish off with 1.

I do question 2 last, cause either way i'm going to get a crap mark in creative writing. Also, you can get away with only doing a few pages for section 2.

im having doubts about 321 now

because lets think about it
with 132
When we write the short responses , our hand really isnt going to get wasted we would probably be flicking back through pages quickly , writng flicking etc.. .. secondly the advantage of using the reading time to read all teh stimulus can be beneficial.... but that would mean you would have to spend some time really planning your AOS essay greater....

so tis a dilemma i will go Eeny meeny miney mo before the exam and decide :D
